# 7. Power system

The HRF Tank is designed with the battery compartment located in the front section of the hull, helping to counterbalance the weight of the rear section containing the motors and gearbox. From the battery compartment, the power cables pass through the front bulkhead into the central compartment, where the flight controller is located. They then pass through the horizontal bulkhead into the ESC compartment.

This bulkhead separates the optionally water-cooled ESCs from the electronics that are more sensitive to moisture. If air-cooled ESCs are used instead, this bulkhead will need to be redesigned to allow adequate airflow and, if necessary, provide mounting space for cooling fans.

From the ESC compartment, the power cables continue through the rear bulkhead into the motor compartment.

In this chapter, you will install the high-current power wiring, which can carry up to 80–90 A, as well as a significant portion of the cooling hoses if you opt for liquid cooling. Take particular care when routing and securing the cables — inadequate cable protection can result in a short circuit and potentially cause a fire. Removing the bulkheads and accessing the ESC compartment again can also be a time-consuming process, so it is worth getting the installation right the first time.
